FOR ADMITTED TRANSFER STUDENTS: HOW TO APPLY FOR A BASF SCHOLARSHIP​

Thank you for your interest in attending UC San Diego and for seeking information about the UCSD Black Alumni Scholarship Program.

 

The UCSD Black Alumni Fund Scholarship of  $5,000 is awarded in annual increments of $2,500 over a two-year period. This unique, renewable scholarship is offered in recognition of an outstanding academic record and commitment to community service. The scholarship may be used toward tuition, books, and/or living expenses.

APPLICATION PROCESS AND DEADLINES:

The Scholarship application deadline is midnight April 29, 2024, by 11:59 p.m. PDT. Transfer students who have been admitted to UC San Diego and have identified themselves on the UC application as Black or African American will receive a BASF invitation to apply and a link to the application form. This invitation will be sent shortly after notification from the Office of Admissions that you have been admitted to UC San Diego for the Fall of 2024.

 

 

Your application will be reviewed by the BASF selection committee, and you will be notified by mid May if you have received a scholarship offer.

 

 

Please note, receipt of the scholarship is contingent upon your decision to attend UC San Diego and your commitment to participate in BASF enrichment activities (as described below) including applying to live on-campus for your junior and senior year unless an exception is granted. You are invited to apply today!

NOTE:  You will be joining a community of 150 current BASF Scholars at UC San Diego. BASF brings its Scholars together several times each year. All Scholars are expected, as part of the Scholarship’s renewal requirements, to participate in the BASF Program’s enrichment activities and maintain at least a 2.7 GPA.

BASF SCHOLARSHIP ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

The scholarship is worth much more than $5,000 because, in addition to the financial award, BASF Scholarship Program includes invaluable academic enrichments preferred by high-achieving students like you, such as:

  • Participate in the Triton Transfer Hub’s Step Into 2024 Summer Activities.  You may select any options within the steps that best meet your needs and interests.  Visit the website at https://transferstudents.ucsd.edu/new-admits/step/index.html.
  • Connect with your assigned UC San Diego Alumni Mentor.
  • Participate in the BASF Fall Orientation for Transfer Scholars, the Winter Quarter BASF Experiential Learning Workshop, and the Spring Quarter BASF Faculty Mixer.
  • Establish an Academic Plan with your college and major department academic advisors.

FOR SCHOLARS ADMITTED TO JSOE THE REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • You enroll in and complete the JSOE Summer Transfer Prep (apply well before deadline): https://jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/idea/admitted-undergraduates/transfer-summer-prep
  • You live on campus during your junior and senior years (upon written request this requirement is waived for married, head of household, or students over 22 years of age);
  • You establish an Academic Plan to graduate with your college and major department academic advisors;
  • You participate in the BASF enrichment activities, including our Fall Orientation for Transfer Scholars, as well as our Winter Quarter BASF Experiential Learning Workshop and the Spring Quarter BASF-Faculty Mixer.
