FOR ADMITTED FRESHMEN: HOW TO APPLY FOR A BASF SCHOLARSHIP

The UCSD Black Alumni Fund Scholarship is $10,000 in annual increments of $2,500. This unique, renewable scholarship is offered in recognition of an outstanding academic record and commitment to community service. The scholarship may be used toward tuition, books, and/or living expenses.

APPLICATION PROCESS AND DEADLINES:

The Scholarship application deadline is midnight March 25 2024. Students who have been admitted to UC San Diego and have identified themselves on the UC application as Black or African American will receive a BASF invitation to apply and a link to the application form. This invitation will be sent shortly after notification from the Admissions Office that you have been admitted to UC San Diego for the Fall of 2024.

Your application will be reviewed by the BASF selection committee, and you will be notified around mid-April if you have received a scholarship offer. Please note, receipt of the scholarship is contingent upon your decision to attend UC San Diego and your commitment to participate in BASF enrichment activities (as described below) including applying to live on-campus during your first and second years, unless an exception is granted. You’re invited to apply today!

SCHOLARSHIP ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES:

The scholarship is worth much more than $10,000 because, in addition to the financial award, BASF Scholarship Program includes invaluable academic enrichments preferred by high-achieving students like you, such as:

  • Access to summer transition programs including room and board:

– For students admitted to the Jacobs School of Engineering, this means the 5-week on campus JSOE Summer Engineering Institute (see “for Engineering students only”section below for additional details);

– For admitted students in all other majors, the 5-week on campus or virtual Summer Bridge program is available. However, you must submit a timely Summer Bridge application.

  • Faculty, peer, and alumni mentoring;
  • Experiential learning opportunities such as faculty-led research, internships, community service, and other activities depending on your interests and career development goals;
  • A dedicated success coach will work with you and your academic advisor to assist with all of your academic planning needs.

YOUR SUCCESS IS OUR GOAL:

Our intention is not merely to have you select UC San Diego, it is to ensure that you thrive and develop to your highest potential as a member of the Triton and BASF Families. We want you to graduate having benefitted from all that this world-class university has to offer, prepared for your highest aspirations for graduate or professional school, employment, or entrepreneurial opportunities.

We look forward to seeing you soon at UC San Diego.

Sincerely,

Ed Spriggs,

Chair, BASF

Janet Fisher,

Vice Chair, BASF
